DISTRIBUTION OF SURFMODL:
SURFMODL is public domain. That means you can give copies away,
upload/download it to your favorite BBS, distribute it yourself,
or whatever else you like. I only ask that you do not derive a
profit from it.
If you would like to get the latest version of SURFMODL, you can
do so by sending a modest donation (to cover disk and mailing
expenses, time, and wear and tear on the disk drives) to one of
a few designated distribution points. I am one of them. I will
ship a copy of SURFMODL anywhere in the continental U.S. for $10,
and anywhere else for $12 (drawn on U.S. funds). This is the
total price, regardless of disk format. Send check, money order,
cash, etc. to:
Ken Van Camp
RD #1 Box 1255
East Stroudsburg, PA 18301
U.S.A.
Please specify your preferred disk format. I support any of the
four most common formats (360KB, 720KB, 1.2MB, and 1.44MB). If
you do not state a preference, I will send whatever disk I happen
to have the most of at the time. I prefer to ship on high-density
disks (1.2MB or 1.44MB), since that way SURFMODL fits on a single
diskette and it cuts down on mailing costs and copying time.
There are other people who have gratiously volunteered to distribute
SURFMODL from other points around the world. If their currency is
easier for you to get than U.S. dollars, I recommend you contact one
of them to get your copy of SURFMODL. I am not including prices
here; I leave that up to them to decide what is reasonable in their
currency. I am also not sure what disk formats they can support, so
be prepared to offer a second choice when you order (if possible).
Please write to them before sending money.
Here are the names and addresses of people who have offerred to

INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISTRIBUTING SURFMODL:
======================================
The following instructions are for people who would like to make
new distribution disks of SURFMODL. The following table shows
the disk requirements to make a copy of the current SURFMODL
release:
DISK REQUIREMENTS FOR SURFMODL 3.00C:
====================================
5-1/4" DSDD (360KB) - 3 disks
5-1/4" DSHD (1.2MB) - 1 disk
3-1/2" DSDD (720KB) - 2 disks
3-1/2" DSHD (1.44MB) - 1 disk
The rules for making a SURFMODL release are pretty simple:
1. EVERY disk in the distribution must have a copy of PKUNZIP.EXE.
2. The first disk must have a copy of SURFINST.EXE and README.1ST.
3. Distribute the .ZIP files among the distribution disks however
they fit best. That's right, the order doesn't matter! SURFINST
checks the disk to determine if each .ZIP file is on it. If it is,
it un-zips it. If not, it prompts the user to "Insert the MODULE
installation disk" where MODULE is replaced by one of the following:
SURFMAIN
SURFDATA
SURFDOC
SURFSRC
SURFUTIL
SURFEMUL
SURFIFF
SURFPRNT
Note that the module names are identical to the .ZIP file names.
Although the order is not important, you can save the user
unnecessary disk swapping by trying to put the .ZIP files on the
disks in roughly the order shown above. (See the example below
of how to create a 3-disk set.)
4. Label the disks according to the modules contained. For instance,
if a disk contains the SURFDATA, SURFDOC and SURFSRC modules I would
label it:
SURFMODL 3.00C
SURFDATA, SURFDOC, SURFSRC
Disk n of m
SUGGESTED DISK CONTENTS FOR 360KB DISKS:
=======================================
As an example of how to properly lay out a set of SURFMODL
distribution diskettes, I provide the following list of the contents
of each of the three disks as I distribute SURFMODL on 360KB disks.
Note that this could change in future releases, especially in the
placement of SURFMAIN. The first disk is very nearly full, so
SURFMAIN may have to be moved to the second disk if it grows much.
Disk 1: PKUNZIP.EXE, README.1ST, SURFINST.EXE, SURFMAIN.ZIP
Disk 2: PKUNZIP.EXE, SURFDATA.ZIP, SURFDOC.ZIP, SURFSRC.ZIP
Disk 3: PKUNZIP.EXE, SURFUTIL.ZIP, SURFEMUL.ZIP, SURFIFF.ZIP,
SURFPRNT.ZIP
If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to write. I do
not include my telephone number because I prefer to avoid phone
calls, but if you have an urgent problem then by all means call me.
I am listed by "directory assistance".
